UMS-Wright’s Curtis Announces Retirement

UMS-Wright football head coach Terry Curtis has announced his retirement from coaching after 26 seasons at UMS-Wright, AL.com is among outlets to report. Curtis won state championships in 2001, 2002, 2005, 2008, 2012, 2017, 2018 and 2019. The Bulldogs reached at least the quarterfinals in 23 of 26 years and never missed the playoffs. At UMS-Wright, Curtis won 284 games and lost 69. In 2004, he was inducted into the Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA) Hall of Fame. He was named National Coach of the Year by the National Federation of High School Coaches for 2018-2019. Curtis became the winningest coach in Alabama history in 2022 before being passed last season by Central Clay County’s Danny Horn. He remains in second place on the list. Curtis plans to stay on at the school in an advisory position for the rest of the school year and will continue in his role of AHSAA Central Board president. UMS-Wright has begun the process of hiring his replacement.
