Prichard Begins Installing Smart Meters

The Water Works and Sewer Board of the City of Prichard will begin installation of a new advanced metering infrastructure, an integrated system of smart meters, communications networks and data management systems that enables two-way communication between utilities and customers. The board said the meters’ installation is helping it establish itself as a fully independent and self-sustaining utility. “An end to uncertainty of meter readings, the ability to view usage at the meter and early notification of possible water leaks…” are other benefits, it said. Next, the board plans to construct new drinking water supplies (wells) and new treatment facilities. It expects minimal disruption for customers during the transition. Currently, Prichard purchases water from the Mobile Area Water and Sewer System. Questions are to be directed to email.
