21st Artys Planned For April 8

The Artys, presented by the Mobile Arts Council (MAC), will be held on April 8 at 6-9 p.m. at the Renaissance Riverview Plaza Hotel in Mobile. It will feature a catered dinner, a cash bar and the Jimmy Roebuck Trio’s live music. City of Mobile Poet Laureate Huggy Bear da Poet will recite a poem he has written for MAC, and there will be performances by Mobile Opera and Mobile Ballet. This year, the Artys will honor Daniela Pardo; LeaAyn Shurley; Muffinjaw Designs; Danielle Juzan; Patrick Jacobs; Carter Hale, Jr.; Eva Golson; Alfred Ward; Jodie Cain Smith; Eric Erdman; the Chickasaw Civic Theatre; Joe and Donna Camp; Brian Tan; and Stan Hackney. This year’s Arty awards, which are always an original work of art from a local artist, were created by Marshall OHern, a multimedia artist whose whimsical, colorful creations span from woodcarving to vinyl to colored pencils and digital renderings. Tickets are $65 in advance and $75 at the door. Table reservations are also available.
