Maritime Museum Gets New Executive Director, Rebrands

Karen Poth has been named the new executive director of the National Maritime Museum of the Gulf of Mexico in Mobile. Poth “has already made some changes to the museum, including the decision to move away from the GulfQuest brand,” Mayor Sandy Stimpson said. “Doing so will allow its congressional designation as the only national museum dedicated to the Gulf of Mexico to be front and center when discussing and marketing this world-class facility.” Poth has a background in entertainment and education. She has been a product designer for national brands and worked at Disney and on VeggieTales. She most recently served as creative director at the Museum of the Bible in Washington, D.C. Under her leadership, the National Maritime Museum is to bring in new exhibits; expand educational programs; and look for new ways to engage Mobilians, local students and visitors who want to learn more about the gulf. Poth recently had a conversation with FOX10’s Eric Reynolds, which is available here.
