Second USA Speaker Series Coming to Fairhope

The University of South Alabama (USA) has announced the second USA by the Bay Eastern Shore Speaker Series for March 15 at 3 p.m. at the USA Baldwin County Campus Performance Center in Fairhope. It will feature a diverse range of free lectures and performances by artists, scholars and industry experts at the campus. Matthew Patterson, an associate professor of glass art, will present “A Glass Act: Teaching and Making Art on the Gulf Coast.” Patterson joined the USA Department of Art and Art History in 2011. He has been crafting for more than 15 years with techniques from classical glass-blown vessels to explorations in figurative sculpture, employing a wide range of applications in glass, wood, metal and other mixed media. His artwork has been exhibited internationally in galleries, museums and private collections, and his work has been shown in more than 100 juried and group exhibitions, including three solo shows, and has won many awards. The USA Glass Art Program will also display an exhibition of student and faculty work. For more information on the free event, contact Amber Day at email. Seating is limited, and registration is required.
