Mobile Chamber Awards Lyons, Will Host Expo Soon

The Mobile Area Chamber of Commerce has awarded James “Jimmy” K. Lyons its highest honor, the Delchamps Award. Former director and CEO of the Alabama State Port Authority, Lyons retired in December 2020 after a 40-year maritime career (BBN #18). Lyons was part of the eight-year effort to recruit Airbus to Mobile and, the chamber adds, “came up with the solution that cleared the way for the ThyssenKrupp” steel mill (now operated by AM/NS and Outokumpu) in Calvert. At the time, it was the largest private investment ever made in the U.S. Lyons also contributed toward APM Terminals’ five-phase plan for a container terminal, now one of the fastest-growing in the country. Additionally, the chamber’s 2021 Business Expo is set for August 19 at 10 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Mobile Convention Center. Entry is $5 plus a business card. For more information, call 251-431-8621 or email Mallory Tyson.
