Boys & Girls Club Personnel, Fundraiser News

Felicia Chesmer-Buhta has been named associate branch director of the Foley Boys & Girls Club, part of the Boys & Girls Club of South Alabama (BGCSA). Chesmer-Buhta is a former “Club kid” from Minnesota and is a retired captain from the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office in Minneapolis. Her work there included directing and developing an at-risk youth program in partnership with Hennepin County’s court system, where she had the opportunity to partner with area Boys & Girls Clubs. Additionally, BGCSA Director of Teen Services Jermaine West was selected for the Patriotic Employer Award by the Employer Support of the National Guard and Reserve. The award reflects efforts made to support citizen military members through measures including flexible schedules, time off prior to and after deployment, caring for families, and granting leaves of absence when needed. The Optimist Boys & Girls Club of Mobile is holding its 13th Annual Pancake Breakfast at its location at 1517 Plaza Drive on March 25 at 8 a.m.-noon. There will be a buffet of homemade pancakes, eggs, sausage, bacon, grits, hash browns, pastries, coffee, fruit juice, milk, fried chicken, fish and more. Alvin King and the 5th K’nection Jazz Band will provide live music, and there will be free haircuts, COVID-19 vaccines and testing, and voter registration. Tickets are $10, going toward funds for the club. This is an outside event, and masks are required.
