Mobile Yacht Club Celebrates 175

MOBILE, Ala. — The Mobile Yacht Club on Mobile Bay is celebrating 175 years this year. Established in 1847, the organization is the second-oldest private boating and sailing club in the U.S. and the oldest club on the Gulf Coast, it said. More recently, it added, both the club and its individual members have fared well in local, regional, national and international local races, including the Dauphin Island Race, the Gulf Yachting Association-sponsored Lipton’s, the Around-the-Rig Regatta and the Mobile Yacht Club Anniversary Regatta. Its calendar lists all these members-only events and more.
