DISL To Host Beach Plastic Exploration And Movie

The Dauphin Island Sea Lab (DISL) and Mississippi State University Coastal Research and Extension Service are holding Beach Plastic Exploration and Movie to teach on the fate of plastics in the environment. Taking place at Dauphin Island’s East End Beach on June 3 at 10 a.m.-2 p.m., it will see expert-led Nurdle Patrols at 10 a.m.-12 p.m. and showings of The Smog of the Sea at 11:15 a.m. and 1:15 p.m. Light refreshments will be served. Nurdle Patrols find and document plastics on local beaches. Attendees will be shown how data are added to the map, and there will be informational tables from Mississippi State extension agents about how microplastics are studied, how microplastics impact the marine environment and how everyday use of plastic can be reduced.
