Mobile Baykeeper Names Executive Director

William Strickland has been named executive director of Mobile Baykeeper after a long search to fill the position, the environmental nonprofit announced. Strickland comes to the organization after serving as president of Mission One in Phoenix. A native of Tuscaloosa, he began his career in environmental engineering before moving into the faith-based nonprofit sector. At Mission One, he has served as president for the past five years, leading strategic campaigns in Africa and Asia that addressed poverty issues from unemployment to unclean water. A graduate of the University of Alabama, he holds a BS in civil engineering with a focus on water issues. “I am thrilled to be returning to protect and restore the waters that I love,” Strickland said. “Over the last few years, my work has allowed me to see and think in systems. The health of the Mobile Bay Watershed affects the economic, social and ecological systems of Alabama, the Gulf Coast and, ultimately, the world.”
