Perdido Pass Seawall Repairs Begin

Repairs to the west side of the Perdido Pass Seawall Park have begun, Mullet Wrapper reports. The west side of the park and parking lot will be fenced during the 35-40-day project. Following the completion of that section, fencing will be moved to the north side to complete repairs, as well as expand and improve the park area. The project, the repair portion of which is under the auspices of the Federal Emergency Management Agency, was awarded by the City of Orange Beach to MD Thomas Construction, LLC of Orange Beach for $695,597.05. The seawall and fishing area fall under the responsibility of the Alabama Department of Transportation, but it was closed in 2012 after being declared unsafe. Orange Beach made more than $200,000 in improvements in the area and reopened it in 2017. It was damaged during Hurricane Sally in 2020. The rebuild will include a Phase 3 extension of the boardwalk north of the bridge, as well as parking improvements.
