Gulf Shores Elementary Construction Updates

GULF SHORES, Ala. — Now that Gulf Shores Elementary School’s new science, technology, engineering and mathematics laboratory has been completed, city officials have turned to the addition of eight more classrooms at the school, Gulf Coast Media reports. The Gulf Shores City Council had planned to vote on July 11 to amend the construction contract with Ben Radcliffe to add the new classrooms at a cost of $616,677. The original contract was for $355,900 for Walcott Adams Verneuille to prepare design, construction and bid documents for the eight-classroom addition at the existing Gulf Shores Elementary School (BBN #87). The work is still on schedule to be completed by August 2023. According to City Administrator Steve Griffin, the addition will help relieve crowding on the elementary campus, which has seen the addition of nearly 200 students since Gulf Shores began its own school system in 2018.
