Local Student Wins $40,000-Per-Year Scholarship

Mobile’s Alabama School of Mathematics and Science (ASMS) senior Anna Peeples from Baldwin County has been named a 2021 Cooke College Scholar. The only recipient from Alabama, Peeples will receive up to $40,000 annually to cover costs associated with an undergraduate education, be advised from foundation staff and have access to a network of active scholars and alumni. She will also receive opportunities for internships, study abroad and have access to graduate school funding. She plans to attend Swarthmore College in Swarthmore, Pennsylvania, in the fall, where she will study Public Health Policy. At ASMS, Peeples cofounded a youth advocate risk prevention and education group for high schoolers under AIDS Alabama South, conducted research and authored an article on sex education laws in Alabama, served as a National Youth HIV/AIDS Awareness Day Ambassador, completed an internship as a Teen Advocate for Sexual Health and served as president of the Allies Club at ASMS.
