MCPSS Names Teachers Of The Year

The Mobile County Public School System (MCPSS) has recognized its Teachers of the Year, FOX10 reports. Jessica Burnette of E.R. Dickson Elementary is the Elementary School Teacher of the Year. An educator for 14 years, Burnette is a Title 1 facilitator, reading intervention specialist and teacher of multiple grade levels. She has taken a leading role in helping adapt the Alabama Continuous Improvement Plan for the school. Christy LeGros of Barton Academy for Advanced World Studies is the Middle School Teacher of the Year. LeGros, who has spent 26 years in the classroom, had her students selected to be a part of the America Celebrates ornament program, in which they created ornaments to be displayed on the Alabama tree near the National Christmas Tree at the White House last year. LeGros also taught at Theodore High School for many years and has served on MCPSS’s Fine Arts Advisory Board. She has been named the Alabama Secondary Art Educator of the Year and the Theodore High School Teacher of the Year. Mischa Armstrong of Baker High School was selected the High School Teacher of the Year. Armstrong teaches algebra and precalculus and is in her 16th year of teaching. During the past year, she has served as a teacher for the A+ College Ready Individual Training and Incentive Program, which fosters success in advanced placement coursework for teachers and students at Baker. Each of Mobile County’s 90 schools selects a Teacher of the Year, who is then nominated for the countywide honor. Burnette, LeGros and Armstrong will now be considered by the state for Alabama’s Teacher of the Year.
