Elberta Middle Students Repeat Art Win

ELBERTA, Ala. — Elberta Middle School’s art students won first place in the Wyland National Art Challenge mural competition, Gulf Coast Media reports. Students from the school also won first place in the competition last year (BBN #30). They were tasked with creating individual sea turtle artworks and combining them into a collaborative mural. Additionally, Elberta Middle’s Alexandra Wood took first place in the individual category. While the theme was predetermined by the competition, its execution was up to the competitors. Student Saylor Morrow said teacher Linda Hill taught “lots of marine biology… not just art. Ms. Hill taught us about the species we were drawing, their living conditions and what they eat. That’s why some turtles are more in a group, and some are off by themselves.”
