Baldwin County Coliseum Sold to City

The Baldwin County Commission has voted to sell the Baldwin County Coliseum on Fairgrounds Road to the City of Robertsdale for $2.2 million, GulfCoastNewsToday.com reports. Robertsdale Mayor Charles Murphy said city officials plan to increase the use of the property by the public use. Under the agreement, the county can still use the facility several times a year when needed, such as it continuing as the site of the Baldwin County Fair. The county will pay Robertsdale $110,000 each time a fair is held on the site. The building, which opened in 2009, was designed as a storm shelter that can house up to 1,900 evacuees. It will continue to serve this function, while offering “opportunities for some commercial growth,” Murphy added.
