Baldwin County Names New EMA Director
The Baldwin County Commission recently appointed Tom Tyler as the new Baldwin County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) director. Tyler had been appointed Baldwin County EMA’s interim director in June from the role of deputy director. Tyler plans to build upon the foundation laid by the team at the Baldwin County EMA with plans to further strengthen the agency’s ability to respond effectively and efficiently to emergencies, disasters and other critical incidents through the coordinated efforts of community partners. He plans to focus on partnerships, public awareness and training. In his previous role as the Alabama National Guard’s Director of Military Support at the rank of colonel, Tyler worked directly with the Alabama EMA to provide support to state and local authorities during times of need. According to Gulf Coast Media, Tyler spent 32 years with the guard, with the last two decades on active duty. Additionally, from 2016 to 2019, he was deputy commander of the guard’s headquarters in Mobile. In this role, he helped provide support of the guard to civil authorities in southwestern Alabama, including Mobile and Baldwin counties.
