Clotilda-Related Tourism Contract Signed
The Mobile City Council has approved a $190,000 contract with SCADPro and Visit Mobile to grow and develop tourism related to the discovery of the Clotilda slave ship, WKRG was among outlets to report. City Councilman C.J. Small spoke in favor of the tourism contract at the December 15 meeting, saying the recent 60 Minutes episode on the Clotilda and Africatown generated a lot of interest and has the potential to draw tourism to Africatown post-pandemic. A film starting at the GulfQuest museum followed by water tours up the Mobile River to see where the ship was discovered will help draw what Visit Mobile CEO David Clark said could be 1 million visitors a year. These aspects of the project are planned to be ready by summer 2021.
