Construction Begins On New Azalea Road MFRD Station

The Mobile Fire-Rescue Department (MFRD) kicked off the construction of its newest fire station on August 7. Fire Station 19 will be at 1301 Azalea Road and will replace the 68-year-old McCosker Fire Station at 1275 Azalea Road. In addition to housing Engine 19 and Rescue 19, the new station will bring additional capacity to the area by relocating a dedicated hazardous material unit to the area. This project represents a roughly $4.6 million investment that will replace one of MFRD’s oldest active facilities. It is being funded through the city’s Capital Improvement Program, with nearly half the project cost being covered by Councilman Ben Reynolds’s district capital funding. Harris Contracting Services will build the new station, which was designed by Forrest Daniell and Associates. The project is being managed by Volkert Inc. on behalf of the city.
