Contract For Africatown Welcome Center Let

The Mobile City Council recently approved a $4.6-million contract to Fairhope-based C. Roberds General Contractors to construct the Africatown Welcome Center on Bay Bridge Cutoff Road in Mobile, FOX10 reported. Funded through the RESTORE Act, this community-driven project will welcome visitors coming to see historical and cultural sites in the community, including the Africatown Heritage House and Clotilda’s Landing. “Since the wreckage of the Clotilda was discovered in 2019, interest in Africatown has continued to grow,” Mayor Sandy Stimpson said. “Once completed, this new facility will provide visitors from around the world with a meaningful first impression of Africatown as they learn about its unique history. From concept to design, the citizens and stakeholders of Africatown have been very engaged in this project. Once final approval is received from the U.S. Treasury, you can expect a groundbreaking event to kick off this exciting project.”
