Fairhope’s Working Waterfront Gets Underway

Work has started on Fairhope’s Working Waterfront, FOX10 reports. What had initially been bid as a $6-million project will now take approximately $10 million to complete. The city’s share is almost $1.2 million. Most funds are from the RESTORE Act. The project has several goals, including repairs on the damaged seawall and improvements to the city’s fountain. Amenities being added include new restrooms on the Fairhope Municipal Park’s south side, along with new railings and restroom improvements to the pier. Above the park, at the bluff, a lift will provide accessibility up and down the hillside. The beach on the north side of the park will not be impacted. Work is to take at least 14 months. The goal is to never close Fairhope Municipal Pier access to visitors or patrons of The Blind Tiger restaurant, which opened last week.
