Fairhope’s Working Waterfront Opens For Bids Again

Fairhope’s Working Waterfront project is getting another chance at landing a contractor, WKRG is among outlets to report. Seawall repairs and improved components such as parking, Americans with Disabilities Act compliance, new pier handrails and fountain repair make up the project, which has been discussed for several years. “I guess the challenge has been to find somebody to do not only the land and the hardscape part of it, but also the sea part and water part of it,” Fairhope Mayor Sherry Sullivan said. There were no bids on the work last month or the previous time the project was put out for bid, but Sullivan is hopeful this time, saying, “We did have a great pre-bid meeting where we had nine contractors there. We’ve had several reach out to us since then. We’re very hopeful that we are going to get somebody to bid on this project, and we can move forward.” The bid process is expected to take at least 30 days, but with the holidays approaching, work likely will not begin until 2024, once the bidding process is complete. Information about the scope of the work may be obtained at city hall.
