Foley Considers Uses For Old Armory

The former armory building, which housed the Foley contingent of the Alabama National Guard, will have a new use as a municipal facility under plans being considered by city officials, the City of Foley announced. The city acquired the building on East Jessamine Avenue near Foley City Hall after the National Guard moved to a new facility on Industrial Parkway east of the Foley Beach Express (BBN #131). Mayor Ralph Hellmich said one potential use is for recreation activities. A basketball or pickleball court and temporary offices for the city are being considered. City officials are also in the process of acquiring the two artillery pieces in front of the old armory building, which the city plans to move to near the veterans’ memorial at Max Griffin Park.
