Foley Department Offices Update

The Foley City Council has voted to appropriate funds for the renovation of the current public works facility on East Violet Avenue. “As public works moves to their new campus, we’re going to have an opportunity to move our Parks Department and Horticulture Department into that building,” David Thompson, executive director for leisure services, said. The parks division of the parks and recreation department and the Foley horticulture department will move into renovated facilities on the East Violet Avenue site that has been used by public works since the 1990s. The project includes the construction of a 2,500- to 3,000-ft2 office building and the removal of fuel tanks used by public works and sanitation department vehicles. “We plan to do as much renovation as we can to get both of those groups into a comfortable spot, and this would put them in place for the next 20 years,” Thompson said. “This is going to be a strategic answer for them, not just a temporary solution.” The new public works campus is scheduled for completion in January 2026. Foley is also working to acquire additional property in the area that could be used for needed new services, such as a new civic center and museum.
