Foley Outlines Upcoming Projects

The City of Foley announced the city council that takes office after the August 26 election will decide on a variety of projects that will affect Foley over the next four years. Upcoming projects the new council will be asked to consider include a new aquatic center and a new civic center with a capacity of 900 to replace the existing facility built in the 1970s. The city is also considering plans for a new museum to commemorate Foley’s designation as an American World War II Heritage City. Foley said it will also continue to design and build road and intersection projects and a safe room for first responders to use during natural disasters. A new expanded senior center is currently under design, and a performing arts center will be considered by the incoming council. Finally, the city is developing plans to expand the Graham Creek Nature Preserve. Its new council’s term is to also see the completion of several projects, including a new public library/community center building, a public works campus and the expansion of the former National Guard armory behind City Hall for use as a recreational facility and for municipal offices.
