Foley To Expand Airport

The City of Foley has announced it is moving forward with plans to improve its airport with additional hangars, taxi lanes and drainage. The Foley City Council recently voted to approve applications for transportation grants to build 10 new T-hangars and make other improvements at the airport. The city is seeking a grant for an airport improvement project from the Alabama Department of Transportation. Currently, all 48 of its hangars are leased, and more than 100 applicants are on a waiting list for additional space. The hangars would be constructed in a 248- by 60-ft building south of the apron near the location of the existing T-hangars. The council also approved applications for grant funding from the Federal Aviation Administration and Alabama Department of Transportation to build taxi lanes allowing access to the new hangars by aircraft. The city is also applying for grants to improve drainage at the airport.
