Ivey Awards Local Grants

Gov. Kay Ivey has awarded grants to organizations across Alabama that provide mentoring, job training and other services aimed at helping young people build productive futures. For Baldwin County, the funding includes $201,762 awarded to The Lighthouse and a $99,999 grant to Goodwill Gulf Coast to expand pre-employment training and General Educational Development services for middle and high school students. The services are designed to help students gain workforce readiness skills and improve long-term employment prospects. Also among recipients is Family Counseling Center of Mobile Inc., which received $100,000 for programs aimed at strengthening families and keeping children in the home in Mobile County and $178,819 to continue services for victims of crimes including domestic violence, sexual assault, child physical abuse and human trafficking in Clarke, Mobile and Washington counties. Penelope House Inc. received two grants—one for $217,619 and another for $207,416. The funding will support personal advocacy, emergency shelter and referrals to community agencies for domestic violence victims in Mobile, Choctaw, Clarke and Washington counties. Funding for the grants is administered by the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs using money from the U.S. Department of Justice.
