Mobile Adds Firefighters, Interns

Mobile Mayor Sandy Stimpson recently congratulated members of the Mobile Fire-Rescue Department’s Firefighter Recruit Class 20-02. The 28 men and women graduated on May 28 after more than 20 weeks of mentally and physically challenging training to formally join the department. Stimpson remarked on the diversity of the class, which included men, women and people from various backgrounds and countries. Additionally, the city welcomed the newest class of interns in the Youth Empowered for Success (YES) summer jobs program. The students will soon take paid positions throughout more than a dozen city departments. The initiative began five years ago with the goal of giving young people job experience that could help them hit the ground running in the professional world. Since 2016, nearly 2,000 young Mobilians aged 14-24 have taken advantage of YES internships, either with local companies or in city departments through the summer jobs program.
