Mobile, Ransom Implement Homeless Litter Collection

MOBILE, Ala. — The Mobile City Council recently approved a contract for a pilot program with Ransom Ministries of Chickasaw intended to help homeless individuals find employment opportunities while cleaning local streets and waterways. As part of the “Litter-Free Mobile” campaign, Mayor Sandy Stimpson’s administration has joined with Ransom founder and Executive Director Matt Armbruster to recruit, train and transport homeless individuals looking for work to various sites throughout the city to remove litter from the roadsides. As part of the agreement, Ransom will also administer payroll services for the workers and file regular progress reports with the city showing their progress. “It’s not just about getting someone a job. It’s about all the other things that come along with that,” Armbruster said. “This will help us build a stronger relationship with the homeless population and determine their needs, whether that’s healthcare, mental healthcare, substance abuse counseling or housing. There are many services that you can’t qualify for without being able to show gainful employment, and this program will help.”
