Next Meeting For Africatown Welcome Center Announced

The City of Mobile has scheduled the next public meeting for the design of the Africatown Welcome Center on July 31 at 6 p.m. at the Hope Community Center. A tentative floor plan, a parking layout and potential building renderings based on previous feedback from the Africatown community will be showcased. The city’s design team, which Mott McDonald is leading, will also be going through various options for finishing materials, colors, lighting and other aspects of the building. “We’ve been working directly with community members and stakeholders for months to develop a design for this important community facility,” Mayor Sandy Stimpson said. “Once completed, the Africatown Welcome Center will be one of the earliest stops for visitors coming here to experience the unique story of Africatown firsthand.”
