Revitalization Of Langan Park
Mobile’s leaders promised on August 4 that Langan Park would be getting a revitalization, AL.com is among outlets to report. Langan Park is heavily used, as many people occupy its pavilions for birthday parties and events, use the playgrounds, play disc golf and exercise. The Mobile Parks and Recreation planning team says the new developments will be collaborative: they plan to use surveys and focus-group feedback to bring the vision to life. Mayor Sandy Stimpson stated, “For those who are as old as I am, we can remember when there were boats and a lot of activities in Langan Park, unlike what it’s evolved to in recent times. But, there is a grand vision, which will be a multiyear plan, to bring Langan Park back into what it can be.” Councilwoman Gina Gregory spoke on some highlights of the new plans: a new boathouse and boating for the park, a new amphitheater, rerouting traffic, different entrances and exits, signage and crosswalks. The lake will also be dredged with help from the federal RESTORE Act, which is providing $11.7 million for restoration of the Three Mile Creek watershed.
