Foley To Install County’s First Baby Box

The Foley City Council voted to approve a lease agreement with Safe Haven Baby Boxes to install a system at the city’s main fire station. The initiative offers an alternative for parents who may feel they have no other option, allowing them to leave their infant in a climate-controlled, monitored box with no legal repercussions. The fire department has been working on the program for approximately two years; this baby box is the first facility of that type in Baldwin County. Under the agreement approved by the council, Safe Haven will approve a location at the fire station where the box will be installed. Companies and churches have offered to donate services and support that should cover most or all of the cost of the project.
