Holmes Completes International Breast Cancer Surgery Training
Dr. Katelin Holmes, a fellowship-trained breast surgeon at Thomas Hospital, recently returned from Amsterdam where she was one of only five physicians from the U.S. selected to complete advanced training in endoscopic nipple-sparing mastectomy (E-NSM), an advanced, minimally invasive procedure for patients undergoing breast cancer surgery or prophylactic mastectomy. The international training focused on the E-NSM technique, which enhances patient outcomes through a small, discreet axillary incision that preserves the nipple and avoids a traditional open surgical approach. “Being selected to train with global leaders in E-NSM was an incredible opportunity,” Holmes said. “This technique offers our patients a safer, less painful experience with improved cosmetic results and psychological well-being — all of which are vital to recovery and quality of life.” She brings this advanced surgical option to patients across Infirmary Health and Infirmary Cancer Care.
