Mobile Infirmary Announces Internal Medicine Residency Program

Mobile Infirmary, an affiliate of Infirmary Health, has received approval by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education to establish an internal medicine physician residency program in June. Mobile Infirmary’s Internal Medicine Residency Program is to train 85 physician residents throughout Infirmary Health facilities within three years. Internal medicine physicians are specialists who apply scientific knowledge and clinical expertise to the diagnosis, treatment and compassionate care of adults across the spectrum of health. The physician residents will rotate through Infirmary Health’s medical service offerings, including inpatient care, emergency services, outpatient medical clinics and a continuity clinic staffed by the resident physicians and board-certified faculty. With more than 20 years of experience in healthcare administration and academia, Dr. JoAnn Wood will serve as residency program director. Wood earned her medical degree from the University of Louisville, where she also completed a combined internal medicine and pediatrics residency. She completed a fellowship in academic general internal medicine at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She completed an MS in medical education at the University of Southern California and a Master of Healthcare Administration at the University of Minnesota. She also completed the Intermountain Advanced Training Program in Health Care Delivery and Improvement. Wood is a fellow of both the American College of Physicians and American Academy of Pediatrics. The program is now accepting applicants for the class of 2024-2025.
