Thomas Hospital Performs Innovative Procedure, First In Area

Dr. Robert Brown, a urogynecologist with Alabama UROGYN, recently performed the first vaginal Natural Orifice Trans Endoscopic Surgery (vNOTES) hysterectomy in Alabama at Infirmary Health’s Thomas Hospital in Fairhope. It is the first such procedure in the Gulf Coast, including Alabama, Mississippi and the Florida Panhandle. vNOTES is a scarless surgery whereby the physician can perform several procedures. Infirmary Health said patient benefits include faster surgery, shorter hospital stays, less postoperative pain, less pain medication and faster recovery. In addition to Brown, Dr. Angela McCool-Pearson, also practicing in Fairhope, is trained to perform vNOTES.
