B-Bob’s Receives Grant From American Express

MOBILE, Ala. — Mobile small business owner Jerry Ehlen, owner/founder of B-Bob’s, a downtown LGBTQ+ nightclub, was among the recent cohort of grantees announced by American Express. The $5,000 grant is part of the company’s Inclusive Backing grant program focused on small business owners who identify as “Native or Indigenous”; “Hispanic or Latinx”; “LGBTQ+”; or as immigrants, refugees or forcibly displaced. The Inclusive Backing funding will help B-Bob’s expand its outdoor seating, a crucial investment in helping the business navigate the post-pandemic landscape. Ehlen founded B-Bob’s in 1992 after 40-plus years in the hospitality and restaurant business. He recognized the need for a safe space for the LGBTQ+ community in Mobile and throughout the region. The business is committed to breaking down stigmas and regularly partners with local nonprofits to give back. Launched in partnership with Main Street America, Inclusive Backing is American Express’ year-round initiative dedicated to providing financial support and educational resources to businesses owned by underrepresented groups that have been disproportionately impacted by the pandemic.
