Big Beach Brewing Wins Medal In Las Vegas

Big Beach Brewing earned a medal for the second time at the World Beer Cup, AL.com reported. Competing alongside hundreds of other breweries from around the world in what Forbes called “the largest and most prestigious beer competition in the world,” the Gulf Shores-based brewery won a bronze medal in the German-style Schwarzbier category for its Surrender Cobra at the competition in Las Vegas. The Schwarzbier originated in Germany. It is a dark lager with an opaque, black color with hints of chocolate or coffee and is typically approximately 5% alcohol by volume. The same beer was a 2022 World Beer Cup gold medal winner. Big Beach’s entry was the only Alabama-brewed beer to earn a medal this year. It competed against 95 others in its category. Overall, the 290 judges from 37 different countries were tasked with assessing 9,300 beers from 2,060 breweries from 50 countries and awarded medals in more than 100 categories. Dr. Jim Shamburger and his wife, Julie, opened Big Beach Brewing in the Waterway Village District in 2016.
