Local Bakery Places Third In King Cake Competition

The specialty king cake by Gourmet Goodies of Daphne was recently named the third-best in the country during the King Cake Extravaganza in New Orleans, NBC15 News reported. New Orleans East bakery Dong Phuong received the top honor. More than 150 king cakes from Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Florida were taste tested. Judges awarded Gourmet Goodies the bronze medal and named it “Best New Contender” with the No. 1 “Savory King Cake.” Gourmet Goodies was the only baker in Alabama to be selected to participate in the competition.
