Norfolk Southern To Upgrade 3B Corridor

Norfolk Southern Corp. has announced an investment to grow capacity on the key 3B Corridor rail line, which connects markets in northern and central Alabama to the Port of Mobile and destinations worldwide. The $200-million-plus investment “positions the line to accommodate expected growth in several sectors as the Southeast progresses as an economic powerhouse for the U.S. economy,” the company said. The corridor helps Norfolk Southern support industries including agriculture, automotive, chemical, forestry and steel. The project involves a mix of terminal and track-based infrastructure improvements, including capacity projects in central and southwestern Alabama, customer-specific projects in northern Alabama and locations north of Mobile and a series of grade crossing improvements throughout the region. Norfolk Southern expects to yield immediate returns on the work when it begins to come on line in 2025.
