Airbus Partnership Completes Threat Detector

Airbus and Koniku Inc., in partnership with the Mobile Police Department, Alabama Law Enforcement Agency canine squad and Federal Bureau of Investigation bomb technicians, have completed double-blind tests of the Konikore, a product that is a combination of living cells and silicon made for automated and scalable volatile organic compound detection. The tests were for the automated and contactless detection of chemical biological and explosive threats to the aviation industry. Airbus said it led the series of field tests evaluating Konikore’s performance. The product was able to detect a widely used primary high explosive “far exceeding expectations and frequently outperforming existing systems used in security threat detection,” the company added. Based on the positive results, Airbus is now preparing a series of additional tests with its airport partners, including Singapore Changi Airport and San Francisco International Airport, to validate the technology’s integration into existing airport security processes for unregulated areas.
