Amazon Cancels Spanish Fort Plans

Amazon’s plans for a $45-million distribution center in Spanish Fort (Amazon Distribution Center For Spanish Fort) have been scrapped, NBC reports. Though little explanation was given, Planning Commissioner Carl Nelson confirmed Amazon’s application withdrawal, and Mayor Mike McMillan said the decision was made by “the upper levels at Amazon,” which cancelled the unsigned proposal. McMillan added there have “already been other conversations with other things going on” for the 24-acre site at the end of Bass Pro Drive in the Spanish Fort Center, which he calls a “crown jewel.” He also alluded to the ongoing Bessemer, Alabama, Amazon unionization fight having no effect on the decision.
