Multimillion-Dollar Escatawpa Park Work Begins
The Mobile County Commission’s recent approval of a $4.8-million contract for Phase 1A of work on Escatawpa Hollow Park and Campground has already gotten underway, AL.com reports. Including new restrooms, pavilions, RV sites, roadwork, water access points and trails, the work is to overhaul Mobile County’s newest waterfront park, half of which the commission bought for a little over $700,000 in 2019. Now sprawling nearly 100 acres, the site on Highway 98 at the Mississippi state line is closed until further notice. This phase’s work will be followed immediately by Phase 1B, to include a welcome center with café, a general store and an information center. Future phases of improvement work could include rental cabins, a conference center, a disc golf course and trails for hiking and mountain biking. The development is being funded mainly by the Gulf of Mexico Energy Security Act, which directs money from offshore oil and gas drilling leases.
