Africatown Foundation Donates $10,000 To Families

The Africatown Heritage Preservation Foundation recently donated $10,000 from Fund II Foundation founder and philanthropist Robert F. Smith to the Thanksgiving Blessing: Hearts, Heads, Hands program. The money went toward 40 Africatown families each receiving a $250 gift card for food. The recipients had been preselected based on nominations from seven churches serving Africatown: Green Grove Baptist Church, Hopewell Baptist Church, Pine Grove Baptist Church, Yorktown Baptist Church, Union Missionary Baptist Church, Olivette Missionary Baptist Church and Mother of Mercy Catholic Church. “Our plans are to come back next year bigger and better with a wider scope,” commented Leavie King, III, a board member of the Africatown Heritage Preservation Foundation and chairman of the Mobile Area Black Chamber of Commerce board.
