Local Nonprofits Receive Donations

Philanthropist MacKenzie Scott, author and ex-wife of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, gave to Theodore-based Feeding the Gulf Coast and Mobile-based Goodwill Gulf Coast among hundreds of organizations nationwide, AL.com reported. Goodwill Gulf Coast received $5 million of the $4.1-billion total, marking the largest contribution in the 64-year-old nonprofit’s history. All donations were focused on pandemic recovery, which Scott said “has been a wrecking ball in the lives of Americans already struggling. Economic losses and health outcomes alike have been worse for women, for people of color and for people living in poverty. Meanwhile, it has substantially increased the wealth of billionaires.”
Wells Fargo recently surprised Feeding the Gulf Coast with a large donation to help the nonprofit’s holiday meal program. Wells Fargo Region Bank President Chris Tracy commented, “As a longtime supporter of the food bank, we wanted to help and are thrilled to donate $36,000 to help and make a challenging season a bit brighter.”
