Local Student Wins Gold Girl Scout Award
Megan Stewart, who has been a Girl Scout with Troop 8306 in Bay Minette for 13 years, was recently awarded the Girl Scout Gold Award, which is the highest award a Girl Scout can earn, according to GulfCoastNewsToday.com. Stewart earned her Bronze Award at Delta Elementary in fifth grade as a Junior Scout and her Silver Award while at Bay Minette Elementary in the seventh grade as a Cadette Scout. When she became a freshman at Baldwin County High School, she began the process to earn her Gold Award, while being a Senior Scout. She had to come up with a project and go before the Gold Award Committee to show where her project would meet five key elements: root cause, leadership, measurability, sustainability and national/global link. For her Gold Award project, Stewart built an outdoor classroom at Bay Minette’s Camp Sid Edmond’s. She also incorporated a safety shed into the instructor’s platform to house all the swimming safety equipment.
