Eastern Shore Trail Expansion Begins

Construction is underway on a new segment of the Eastern Shore Trail along U.S. Highway 98, Gulf Coast Media reports. The project includes the construction of an 8-ft-wide asphalt multi-use trail extending approximately 1.84 miles, beginning at Fish River. The new segment is part of the broader Eastern Shore Trail system, which currently spans approximately 23 miles. With the completion of the extension, the trail network will grow to nearly 24.8 miles. With a total project budget of $2 million, the trail will be constructed entirely within the existing U.S. 98 right-of-way. McElhenney Construction was awarded the contract and has mobilized crews to begin initial construction activities. The project is expected to reach completion this summer.
