Fort Morgan Trail Addition Now Open

A new stretch of the Fort Morgan trail is officially open, adding 4.4 mi. of trail, WKRG News 5 reports. The new extension adds paved trail westward along Fort Morgan Road, stretching from Plantation Boulevard to near Ewing Place and Fort Morgan Pizza, along with 12 bridges over coastal wetlands and a new restroom facility. The $5.6-million expansion was funded by the federal RESTORE Act after the Deepwater Horizon oil spill. It brings the trail to approximately 10.5 mi. and connects to the Backcountry Trail system in Gulf State Park. Additional expansion is anticipated.
