Gulf State Park Updates

Gulf State Park Pier repair is currently in the permitting phase with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and it is not known when the permit will be completed and issued. However, hopes are for it to be issued soon, allowing the project to be put out for bid by late February 2022. After a final review of permit special award conditions, plan specifications, bids, contracting and other process requirements, the expectation is to begin construction in April 2022. If this process goes as planned, the pier is expected to reopen near the end of summer 2022.

Additionally, the park recently deployed a Mobi-Mar Americans with Disabilities Act Beach Access Mat at its west boardwalk, Gulf Coast Media reported. The mat stretches 200 feet from the end of the boardwalk, ending just 50 feet from the Gulf of Mexico. The mats are designed to ease the walk over sand for those with limited mobility and give those in wheelchairs access to the beach. Accessibility mats can also be found in Gulf Shores at the west end of the Gulf Place Public Beach parking area at West 2nd Street and at the east end of Gulf Place Public Beach near the Pink Pony.
