Mobile County Breaks Ground On Lewis Landing Waterfront Park

The Mobile County Commission held a groundbreaking ceremony on May 14 for Lewis Landing, a nearly 2-acre public park on Three Mile Creek near Africatown. Located just north of downtown Mobile at 1365 Conception Street Road, Lewis Landing will feature a kayak launch, fishing piers, pavilions, green space and parking. It will be the first destination along the Africatown Blueway Connections trail. The project is led by Mobile County District 1 Commissioner Merceria Ludgood and funded through a 2023 State of Alabama Gulf of Mexico Energy Security Act grant. Mobile County previously used GOMESA funds to purchase the property for $40,000 in 2020. Construction is expected to take approximately six months. The contract was awarded to Harris Contracting Services, LLC for the low bid of just over $810,000. Stantec is providing design and engineering services.
