Mobile Sports Authority Seeing Positive Local Trend

This week, Mobile Sports Authority (MSA) Executive Director Danny Corte gave city leaders some good news about sports tourism in Mobile County, according to Mayor Sandy Stimpson. There was a slowdown in local sporting events over the past year and a brief period where they stopped altogether. However, Corte’s presentation showed that the first two quarters of fiscal year 2021 have shown positive trends. Between October and January, MSA hosted five events, and there have been 14 since February, each of which brought hundreds of athletes and spectators into the city. According to MSA, the 19 events held since October 2020 have had an estimated economic impact of approximately $10 million. There are 13 more MSA events on the calendar in 2021, and Corte said interest is strong.
